We are already aware of some mistakes:
-eating too much
-exercising too little
-snacking a lot
-soda or other sugary drinks
But there are some things we are simply unaware of. Just consider these:
- You’re letting healthy foods trick you.
If you eat too many processed products, you will get fatter. Even if you eat too much, you will get fatter. And it doesn’t matter what you eat, because you can gain weight from healthy things too. It is not the case that you can eat as much as you want. Because then the calorie intake becomes too high and the pounds will pile on anyway. So it really is about portion size.
- The attention you give to food.
Distraction causes us to stop paying attention to chewing. We sit in front of the television or on our phone, laptop, or computer while we eat. That distracts us, not only from chewing properly, but also from what you taste. A meal is only a meal when you know what you are eating. And that you eat slowly, because digestion begins in the mouth. Enzymes produced there, saliva mixed with the food. So it is very important to have a quiet place without distractions to eat. How about the dining table?
- Keep your favorite snack in sight.
A jar of cookies on the counter or a small bowl of chocolate on the table, “For when guests come over,” often perpetuates unhealthy habits. You can put a glass of water down instead of cookies. Or a handful of nuts, not a bowl. You crave everything you see. You might even grab something on autopilot. Unconsciously, you reach back into the cookie jar anyway. So put everything behind a door or, even better: leave it in the store.

- The overeating happens at night, but the cause started in the morning.
Because you skip breakfast or perhaps even lunch, your body gets a craving for food later in the evening. This is often the moment when you make a bad choice. After all, who eats a sandwich in the evening in front of the television? That isn’t exactly sociable, is it? But because you skipped breakfast, your body is lacking nutrients in the evening. Some people even get out of bed and eat dinner in the middle of the night.
- One hour of exercise can’t always undo fourteen hours of sitting.
This is my favorite for a “wow, I hadn’t thought of that” moment.
Someone exercises for an hour 3 times a week.
But sits:
8 hours at the office
2 hours in the car
3 hours on the couch
Of course, it also depends on what profession you have. Whether you have an office job or you are a road builder or an order picker. The order picker sits down for a bit during the lunch break, while the person in the office goes for a walk during the lunch break.
